Pen to Paper and Fingers to Keyboards

Ever since I started putting pen to paper, people have told me how important writing is. I've heard them say it teaches you how to express yourself and how to tell a good story. For the longest time, I did believe in the importance of writing, and I still do to some extent, but not as much any more.
When I was in middle school and even halfway through highschool, I loved to write. I excelled in class and even went above and beyond by writing my own short stories and poems outside of class. I once became so dedicated to writing that I wrote an entire first chapter to a novel I wanted to write.
As time passed though and I had other, more important things to do, I stopped writing altogether and my book didn't get a single word longer. Eventually, I even stopped reading too and the number of books on my to-read list only grew. With my schedule in highschool, it simply became impossible to spend time on things that distracted me from school and reading and writing were two incredibly time consuming things I could not afford to do.
Now that I'm in college, nothing has changed. I have lots of things to do and places to be and in my down time I would prefer to do things that let my mind relax. So now I write because I want to pass English 101. After this year, I doubt I will return to writing at all other than for academic purposes, but who really knows what the future has in store for me and my writing career.
