Hit Clips > iPods

When I was about eight years old, I got my first computer. It was one of those big tan colored computers, but it didn't have internet and the only thing I could do on it was play the internal games and insert CDs.

Through the years, I've always managed to keep up with the new tech toys. After my computer, I got what I thought was the raddest thing ever, a Hit Clip. Hit Clips, when looked back on, were actually a huge waste of money, but as a kid you thought it was the best spent three dollars of your life. How these Hit Clips worked was you would insert a "disc", hit play, and listen to a song. The thing about hit clips, however was that they only played one song and it wasn't even a full song, but hey at least they always had the hippest songs.

As of today, I've gone through numerous techy devices ranging from a Hit Clips and a Gameboy Advanced to a Macbook Pro and an iPhone 5. Growing up with technology, I never really faced any issues with it. My generation is was able to grow up along with technology which made learning much easier. Having the opportunity to learn as each new product came out instead of being forced to learn it all at once has made my generation some of the most proficient users of technology.

The runner-up generation would be the current elementary schoolers. Now these children did not grow up with changing technology so what would make them skilled? They started developing computer skills from a very young age because many parents let their children play with their own technology. However, their knowledge of technology when they grow up, will only encompass current technology rather than knowledge of past technology as well. Eventually, they will end up taking my generation's place as "the best" because sooner or later all technology becomes outdated and so will be some my generation's knowledge.

The older I've gotten, the more I've been faced with endless comments from the older folk about how technology has ruined us. It wasn't until I was in eighth grade, when I got my first phone and Facebook account that I really realized how distracting they were and that there was some truth to what they were saying. Technology has the ability to isolate people by creating gaming addictions, but technology has connected people to such a new extent. We can now get in touch with those long lost childhood friends or even a complete stranger on the other side of the world. Technology has done wonders for our world and I can't wait to see what new inventions are on their way.
