D.H. Hill and Chill

Since being on campus, I have only ever gone to the library to do homework between classes. Of course, I knew the library had books, movies, magazines, etc., but I never even considered the extent of resources it had both in and out of the library itself.

Running around D.H. Hill and getting lost in the bookstacks during the scavenger hunt was very helpful. I assumed every floor was exactly the same as the second floor, but I noticed some were different and each has different features. The help desk knows almost anything about the library that you can think of and I think their assistance is fantastic. The part that excited me the most, however, was all the ways to research topics through the online library.

With all the resources in the D.H. Hill, as well as in the other libraries, I will be able to write great essays with plenty of supporting evidence. I doubt I will be walking into the library to conduct my research, but I will definitely use the website because its easy and convenient.

These days, in the modern era, it is much more common for students to do as me and chose to research online rather than in a library with tangible sources. There are positives and negatives to this. Starting with the positives, online research is easy, can occur anywhere (as long as there is wifi), and can search all over the world. On the other hand, if you choose to research without using an identified research website, like the NCSU library's, and chose to use Google instead, your results will be censored. Google, as well as other search engines, tailor search results to show what they believe you would like to read. Because of this, many people have very biased opinions since they've only seen half of a story.

The Internet has changed our world completely. I am not one to complain about it ruining us as a society because I actually think it has made us better. With access to the Internet, any of our questions can be quickly answered and if there is no direct answer to our question, there are plenty of sources available to come up with your own answer. Nowadays, research and the Internet come hand in hand, allowing us to expand our minds and progress forward.
